  2. Fire is life. It's heat. It's sex. It's magic. Crackling flames speaking nature's tongues. It's late night bonfires with toasted marshmallows and friends. Fire is the hissing, jumping, amorphous inspiration in the hearts of the free and the wicked. It whispers golden orange truths to cold wanderers. Fire is hot cocoa in one hand and a book in the other, sitting on the couch and watching the flames grow. It's snow days and christmas mornings and taking stockings stuffed by santa from the mantle above. Fire is sweet, sweaty passion, skin licking skin beside the blaze. It's forest fires and destruction. It's too many firemen with not enough hoses. It's heat. It's magic. Fire is life.

  3. Fire reminds me of the story when my husband set himself on fire as a 4-year-old. Early one Sat. morning he was trying to see if he could set the lawn on fire with matches. His mother saved his life when she heard something and went outside to see her son's pajamas burning away. He's 41 and still has the scars. He's a lucky one.

  4. Hi Alexis. Just popping around to all the Crusaders in my group. Congratulations on 100 followers! It's so exciting to see that count go up. The blogosphere is so generous in friends and encouragement and advice.

So, to try to get that giftcard ;) Fire is terror and teaching. It's like evil -- fascinating but lethal. You get too close because it's beautiful and hypnotizing, because the way the flames move is so unnatural, intoxicating. Then BAM. Like a snake it turns on you, bites back.

My best friend's Dad used to be a pyro, to the increasing worry of his parents. Finally, one day, his Dad -- sick with worry and looking for a solution -- set his son's shirt on fire. Of course, he had a bucket of water ready, and the little guy wasn't hurt. But the terror of that moment killed his love of matches, his desire to play with little flames. Because they get bigger and consume. It taught him the kind of wisdom that a simple "Don't do that because I said so" would never have given. He's one of the best men I know, and he'll tell anyone that at his core is the knowledge of his smallness, learned when he was quite literally on fire.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Have a great day, dear. Glad to meet you :)

  6. I'm in your blogfest already, sounds like it's gonna be fun! :D

As for what fire means to me:

At the moment, where I live, we're in the midst of a blazing hot summer and it is HORRIBLE. We have lost many houses to fire. And yet I also think of fire as something beautiful to look at, i.e. when I was in the snow for Christmas last year and we had a bonfire, I was mesmerised by staring into it. So yeah...

Fire can be both death & destruction and misery, and it can also be life-preserving and dazzling to the eye.

  7. Fire is magic. The crackle, the flickering embers, the sparks, the heat--to think someone, years ago, rubbed two sticks together and Poof! Fire. Magic. Want to write a sex scene, add a burning fire in the fireplace. Want to write horror, add fire licking the walls creating an inferno.

I love a good fire, whether in my firplace at home or in the great outdoors while camping. It's beautiful.

  8. Fire reminds me of my childhood. Sitting around a campfire with my family roasting marshmallows with that lovely smoky smell in the air. I could sit and watch a fire burn for hours, the colors changing from red to blue to orange.

  10. Hey, this sounds fun. Okay, I'm going to veer off from what others have said. Just to be different. I'm gonna mention a very creative and artistic rendition of fire. It was at a theater production I believe (can't remember which one, rats), and it was SO cool how they depicted fire onstage! They had a fan or wind-machine set into the stage, and it blew these orange and red scarves around, upward, whipping and changing shapes as they flickered. Like tongues of flames. It looked AMAZINGLY like fire. I was entranced. :)
